Accenture and Conexao today announced that the Accenture Foundations have awarded Conexao an additional grant of US$1.1 million to help the organization expand its efforts to provide employment skills for underprivileged young people and mentor local entrepreneurs in Brazil. This grant brings Accenture’s direct support to Conexao to more than $3.9 million.

The award reflects Accenture’s global corporate citizenship initiative, Skills to Succeed, which will equip 250,000 people around the world by 2015 with the skills to get a job or build a business. The one-year grant will help Conexao provide vocational skills for an additional 5,700 young people and mentoring and coaching for approximately 100 entrepreneurs.

In addition to the grant, Accenture will continue supporting Conexao with pro bono services as it has done since the organization’s inception in 2007. Accenture to be consulted on all areas of Federal Bureau of Investigations’ operations

Accenture has been selected as one of the prime contractors eligible to compete for services as part of the FBI IT Supplies and Support Services contract that has a $30bn ceiling.

The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract has a one-year base contracting period plus seven additional one-year options.

Accenture is qualified to compete for work in four of five contracting areas under the contract: hardware, software and related services; operations and maintenance; technical and development; and ‘other’ which includes briefings, process improvements, training and other duties as the FBI determines.

The contract is open to all FBI organisations and other US Department of Justice (DOJ) agencies that seek to acquire IT services and supplies.

Accenture reported financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2010, ended Feb. 28, 2010, with net revenues of $5.18 billion, a decrease of 2 percent in U.S. dollars and 8 percent in local currency from the same period last year and within the company’s guided range. Diluted earnings per share were $0.60.

IBM and Accenture lead the field of SAP outsourcing providers, with CSC, Capgemini and HP giving chase, according to a recent Gartner Magic Quadrant report.

Accenture has among the largest and most-extensive range of SAP capabilities, and IBM has the size, longevity and scale of operations to match, the report states. Methodologies like IBM SmartRun and the vendor’s alignment with Run SAP methodology make for quality service. And IBM has good partnering skills.

It’s the first year that Gartner has completed a Magic Quadrant report dedicated to SAP outsourcing. They’ve seen a spike in demand for SAP outsourcing services because of the weak economy, said Ben Pring, Gartner research vice president and the report’s author.
