November 30th, 2011By Luke Bujarski
The gloomy economic situation in Europe has not stopped Spain’s Everis from turning obstacles into opportunities, both overseas as well as on the European continent. However, with clear operational and cultural ties to Latin America, Nearshore Americas predicts that this IT consulting and services giant will be making big strategic moves to expand its regional presence here, particularly as it finds the path of least resistance in serving markets in Mexico, Brazil and the US from its Chilean center. We sat down with Patricia García, General Managing Partner with Everis Chile to understand how a Spanish-born player is scaling up, despite Europe’s mounting economic turmoil.

October 17th, 2011In regional ranking, Mexico and Peru receive mixed reviews
By Dan Berthiaume
Chile is the overall top performer among Latin American countries on the Business Software Alliance (BSA) 2011 IT Industry Competitiveness Index, even though it fell back from 27th place in 2009 to 32nd place among 66 countries ranked this year. Despite this middling rating, Chile actually ranks number one worldwide in terms of government technology neutrality, thanks to its avoidance of what BSA terms “picking winners” among industry players or technologies.
When it Comes to English, Chile Doesn’t Make the Grade
March 16th, 2011Chile has the IT skills to be a global player, but does it have enough professionals proficient in English
By Dennis Barker
Chile plans to expand its IT outsourcing services sector by bringing in a lot more global customers and by setting up outposts in the United States. But the country is going to need something to fuel that growth: more English speakers.
The figure varies, but current assessments put the number of proficient English speakers in Chile at 3 to 5 percent of the population. With 16 million people, that’s approximately 700,000 who have a working knowledge of the language. When you’re a popular destination, that’s not enough.
Global Services Firms Maintain Focus in Wake of Chile Quake
March 3rd, 2010By Karina Cuevas
Despite Chile being a country with a long seismic history, the 8.8 earthquake that devastated its southern region left many disconnected from the rest of the world. A lack of electricity and communication has been one of the primary concerns for business owners whose operations are fundamentally dependent on connectivity to the rest of the world.
The global services industry in Chile appears to be rebounding well from last week’s disruption, working simultaneously to reach out and service those in need and also strive to maintain business as usual.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this earthquake. In the wake of this emergency, Sitel’s first priority is the safety and well-being of our associates,” said Dave Garner, Chairman and CEO of Sitel. “The local Emergency Committee is working to contact every associate to determine their situation, get an idea of individual losses, and find out needs and ways we can be of assistance. “
Sitel has enacted a preparedness plan, built for these types of situations. Among other procedures, account teams activated to make contact with customers to minimize the impact on contact center activity.
