While Latin America has always existed as the southern neighbor of the US, according to Raul Rivera, Founding Chairman of Chilean innovation consulting firm Foro Innovacion, it has only been in recent years that the US has discovered the region’s potential as a provider of IT services.
“The US discovered Latin America exists in the last ten years and is capitalizing on it,” said Rivera. “Latin America offers incredible advantages (in providing IT services) over other options such as Russia as the product becomes more complex and sophisticated.”

Chile Has Most Competitive IT Industry in Latin America

Chile is the overall top performer among Latin American countries on the Business Software Alliance (BSA) 2011 IT Industry Competitiveness Index, even though it fell back from 27th place in 2009 to 32nd place among 66 countries ranked this year. Despite this middling rating, Chile actually ranks number one worldwide in terms of government technology neutrality, thanks to its avoidance of what BSA terms “picking winners” among industry players or technologies.
Sonda Still Has Money to Spend, But Where?

Sitel Names Raul Navarro General Manager for South America
July 6th, 2011Call-center outsourcing provider Sitel has appointed Raul Navarro as general manager for South America. In his new position, Navarro holds the responsibility for operational delivery as well as human resources and financial functions as they relate to the business of Sitel in Colombia, Chile and Brazil. Navarro will report directly to Don Berryman, general manager of Sitel Americas.
The decision to appoint Navarro was part of the new growth strategies implemented by the call center outsourcing provider in the Americas region as a result of strong growth in 2011, and the push towards continuously improving the company at every level in the important South American market.
“Raul brings to the team a wealth of knowledge and experience of growing and selling BPO business operations in the US and South America,” Berryman said. “We are excited to leverage his in-depth understanding of the BPO business.”
