hildo logo Hildebrando Takes Aim at US with Financing from Carlos Slim By Patrick Haller

Hildebrando is launching an ambitious campaign to expand its share of export IT and BPO services in the US over the next year. Unlike rivals Softtek and Neoris – firms that have become ‘household names’ among sourcing decision makers in North America – Hildebrando is a largely unknown entity outside of Mexico. The firm’s strategy  is bolstered by the financial backing of deep-pocketed Grupo Carso, part of the Carlos Slim empire, which controls a share of the Hildebrando group.

mexico outsourcing 300x981 How Do Mexicos Outsourcing Incentives Stand Up to Nearshore Neighbors? By Tarun George

With the new US visa fees in place for non-US nationals, Nearshore Americas recently predicted that companies have an added incentive to turn south across the border for their sourcing needs. Mexico is working hard to compound that effect. We’ve heard (admittedly from our Mexican contacts) that their incentives programs are the most aggressive and deep of any of the Nearshore countries. Those are fighting words, so this week we want to explore whether they’re true. Read on for an analysis of the nuts and bolts of Mexico’s offerings, and how they match up to the competition.

Mexico’s economy, recovering from its worst recession in decades, could grow as much as 5 percent in 2010, the country’s central bank head said on Sunday, raising his outlook in line with analyst views.

Central Bank Governor Agustin Carstens told an annual Inter-American Development Bank meeting in the Caribbean resort of Cancun that Mexico’s economy could grow between 4 percent and 5 percent this year.

“We are in a strong recovery process … it’s very likely that Mexico will end this year growing between four and five percent,” Carstens told reporters. “Aggregate demand is growing faster in Mexico. That means the output gap will probably close down faster than we anticipated some months ago.”

In January, Carstens said Mexico’s economy would likely grow between 3.2 percent and 4.2 percent in 2010. In February he told Reuters he shared the finance ministry’s view that 2010 growth looked set to come in around 3.9 percent.

The rise of Mexico as an sourcing destination should come as no surprise, but the next few years will determine iStock 000006690626XSmall1 300x1991 COUNTRY PROFILE: A More Mature Mexico Develops a Bigger Vision whether the country has the right vision and the right strategies to cultivate new sourcing centers in under-developed, but potentially fertile BPO pockets.

The good news is Mexico continues to  ride the wave of Hispanic growth in the US. Outsourcing in Mexico is driven by one huge factor: the majority of the Hispanic population in US feels quite comfortable when they hear a Mexican accent. Almost 15% of  the US population is Hispanic. More than 64% of the Hispanics in the US are of Mexican origin. This power of sheer numbers is amplified by a feeling of nostalgia among the Mexican Americans towards their ancestral land.

“We’re making strong strides in IT outsourcing,”  – Jorge Zavala, TechBA Silicon Valley

Sub-Sourcing into Guatemala

Outsourcing in Mexico has reached a point of maturity where Mexico has started to use Guatemala as a nearshore location for its domestic Spanish-only calls. That sentiment is hear from Gustavo de la Peña , of Unifica Teleservices, a subsidiary of Marcatel, which is one of the leading telecom providers in Mexico. “We’ve started using Guatemala for domestic calls as it is almost 50% cheaper than here in Monterrey,” de la Peña said.

Ready for KPO?

Mexico is well poised to handle more complex outsourcing services. The country already has a booming contact center/ BPO industry with global players such as Teleperformance, Atento, TeleTech, Sitel co-habitating with strong local players such as Telvista, Axtel, b-connect, Konexo, Capta, Sertec and Unifica Teleservices.

With the strong emergence of Central America in the BPO space, Mexico has a tremendous opportunity to deliver more complex BPO services using the service bandwidth of emerging central American countries for simpler processes and its own internal resources for complex ones.

Interview with Former  Mexican President Vicente Fox
Source: The Desert Sun
Before a crowd of engineers gathered in La Quinta, former Mexican President Vicente Fox took a range of questions on global issues. The following are excerpts from his responses:

What are your thoughts on legalizing drugs?

I’m for it. Why? Because it’s not the government’s responsibility to get our kids off drugs; it’s our responsibility. It’s the parents’ responsibility and the kids or the citizens that do the drugs themselves. … (Fox compared the issue to Prohibition). Those answers don’t work. So I think that today we should open the debate. We should look for better answers.

What are your thoughts on the United States’ presence in Afghanistan and the ongoing war that the nation is in with these foreign countries?

This was the key difference between me and President (George W.) Bush and the war in Iraq: I’m for multilateralism, not unilateralism. The …

This video – recently distributed by the Mexico promotional agency “Mexico IT” – provides a pretty detailed picture on why Mexico has gone from the “best kept secret” in global outsourcing (a Gartner quote) to one of the world’s leading BPO destinations. A mild warning: The content is definitely promotional in nature, but there are plenty of infobits to make watching worthwhile: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsN8JSGQk0A&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2Fvideosearch%3Fq%3Dnearshore%26oe%3Dutf-8%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial%26client%3Dfirefox-a&feature=player_embedded]
