50% of Workers Threaten to Quit if Denied Remote Working

Hybrid offices look set to mushroom all over in the days come because in a recent Microsoft survey more than 50% of employees have made it clear that they would quit their job if they are not allowed to work remotely at least for a few days in a month.

For many employees, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed hybrid working from “nice to have” to “must-have”, stated the computing giant in a blog post.

In other words, employees are increasingly feeling convinced that remote working helps balance work and social life, and therefore are unwilling to go back to the office.

Hybrid is a mix of remote and office work. There has been a sudden spurt in the number of hybrid offices in recent months, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic forced imposition of social distancing.

The report, however, concedes that remote working is causing some disadvantages as well.

More than a third (36%) of UK workers who started a new job since the start of the pandemic experienced their entire onboarding process without ever setting foot in the workplace, according to the report.

These workers are finding it hard to learn new skills and gain the confidence of their co-workers and bosses.

“These workers have struggled with forming working relationships (42%), not having a manager or team “in the room” to ask for information or guidance (33%), learning to use new software and applications (24%), earning the confidence of colleagues (23%), and soaking up company culture (21%),” the report noted.
