While the news out of Argentina in recent years has focused on defaults and currency devaluations, the clean-energy sector is one industry showing innovation. Lawmakers recently passed legislation mandating the nation to generate at least 8% of its electricity from renewable sources, like wind, solar, or small-scale hydro power, by 2017. But some remain skeptical about such an ambitious pledge — especially since the law is also shooting for Argentina to reach the 20% threshold by 2020. “Legislating and implementing the law will be a real challenge, because it requires the creation of a market for renewable energy from practically nothing,” engineer Nicolás Brown told The Guardian.
