Brazil Dominates Tech University Rankings in LATAM

Brazilian universities dominated the top ranks for computer science programs in Latin America, according to a recent US News and World Report ranking.

The report, which evaluated 778 universities globally, placed six Brazilian institutions among the top 20 in the region for computer science degrees.

The Brazilian universities included in the ranking are the University of São Paulo, State University of Campinas, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.

Chile’s prestigious Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile achieved top spots as well.

Mexico, despite its size and prominence in the Latin American economy, secured only three entries on the list: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM), Instituto Politécnico Nacional (PN) and Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM).

The University of Buenos Aires, in Argentina, ranked 14th globally, emerging as a top choice for aspiring software professionals.

Brazil’s success is attributed to its strong research profile, evident in high research outputs, patent production and R&D spending. US News’ methodology considers these factors alongside the number of publications citations, and global/regional research reputation of an institution.
