Celebrating Christmas in Mexico…with Radishes!

Today, December 23rd, marks the official start of Christmas celebrations in Oaxaca, Mexico, with the annual Night of the Radishes, or Noche de Rábanos, taking place in the main plaza.

The event is one of the most impressive vegetable festivals in the world, and features elaborate radish carvings, often in the shape of nativity scenes. Artisans from around the world travel to Mexico to celebrate the event.

In a tradition that dates back centuries, people of all ages wait in huge queues to gaze upon the intricately carved radishes, hoping to take one home as a Christmas centerpiece.
