Cozumel: The first “Smart Island” in the Caribbean

The Mexican island of Cozumel is to become the first “Smart Island” in the Caribbean, or “intelligent tourist destination”, with the introduction of the Cozumel Smart Island mobile app, which integrates the bulk of tourism products and services of the island.

In collaboration with the Institutional Fund for Regional Development for the Scientific, Technological, and Innovation Development (Fordecyt) of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt), the initiative intends to promote environmental, material, and human sustainability with the support of technology and information tools.

According to Rodrigo Huesca Alcántara from Conacyt, the technological and intellectual products were developed for the project by Mexican suppliers specialized in their area.
