Globant Acquires WAE, Increasing Its "Digital Journey" in Europe

Argentina’s best known software studio Globant has acquired a London-based innovative digital services firm WAE. Financial details of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
Globant says the acquisition aligns with its plan to create what it calls ‘digital journeys’ for its clients, adding that the goal is to discover and build digital journeys for clients so they stay relevant in this technology-driven business environment.
Founded in 2003, WAE has a team of 40 professionals working from their offices in London and New York. As a proof of its focus on innovative outcomes, WAE received several awards, including the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 award.
No doubt that Globant has been impressed by WAE’s experience and track-record in creating innovative technology products. It is also possible that WPP, British advertising firm that owns a stake in Globant, had a hand in influencing the pursuit of WAE.
With WAE in its tow, Globant hopes to build a global team of technology experts. “Their experience in truly disruptive projects will be key to enhancing our portfolio,” stated Martín Umaran, Globant Chief of Staff and co-founder. “WAE’s focus will help us increase the depth of our capabilities in envisioning digital journeys, based on their current practices: service design, customer insight and UX design.”
Although a software-focused outsourcing firm, Globant has always been stuck on innovation, developing software in emerging technologies, including cloud computing, gaming and big-data. To keep its employees innovative and productive, Globant often organizes hackathons, ideation sessions and flip-thinking events. At hackathons, its employees join other budding techies to deal with certain technology challenges.
It is this innovation that has set Globant apart from most other technology outsourcing firms. Moreover, Globant seems to have realized that it can only excel through innovation rather than legacy labor arbitrage.
Martín Migoya, Globant CEO and Co-founder, stated that WAE shares his company’s passion for creativity, innovation, and design. “Its professionals are experts in conceiving strategies that can revolutionize brands.”
