IBW’s Salvadoran Business Acquired by British Telecom Firm

London-based investor General International Telecom acquired the Salvadoran operations of telecom services provider IBW.

General International plans to merge IBW’s assets in El Salvador with Telefonica’s Central American operations, which it acquired in 2021 for US$139 million.

With IBW’s assets in its portfolio, General International will now have a much wider footprint in the region.

IBW Holding is one of the more prominent telecom operators in Central America. It has operations in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua. In Costa Rica, it provides telecom, internet, data transmission, LAN/WAN communications and network security services to several foreign multinationals.

Additionally, it manages a WiMAX data network, a trunk radio network and has invested in the Maya submarine cable. In Honduras, the company acts as a partner for local telecoms, while in Nicaragua and Guatemala, it owns extensive internet data cables.
