Jamaica’s government is planning to provide BPO training in order to increase its ability to create jobs and meet economic growth targets.
“BPOs are often viewed as call centers offering cheap labor and I want persons to stop looking at the industry as a sweat shop,” said Minister Horace Chang (pictured) at a meeting with representatives of some of the island’s tertiary institutions and key government agencies. “We must change the image of the sector through skills training,” he added.
Chang then revealed that the “the Heart Trust/NTA will lead the national effort and will develop a program to have persons trained in the particular areas”.
Agents in Jamaica recently praised its BPO companies for the on the job coaching, mentoring, and training that is provided to employees.
