Jamaican Food Could Soon Become a Key Tourist Attraction

Jamaican food could soon be attracting more visitors to the Caribbean island, as the Ministry of Tourism looks to create a series of culinary tours across the country.

During the launch of the first food trail in coffee country on Sunday, Minister Edmund Bartlett broached the possibility of a rum tour in Trelawny and a jerk tour in Portland.

At least 15 businesses are participating in the first trial, including coffee estates, eateries and food attractions, all within the shadow of the Jamaica Blue Mountains.

“These are the elements that will bring people and expand the consumption side,” said Bartlett. “Soon we will be launching Devon House as a gastronomy center, bringing visitors to the historic site to experience the different culinary offerings through various package tours.”
