Some American companies paid exorbitant salaries to software professionals in 2019, as they sought help from tech wizards in developing solutions potential enough to transform their business.
Lyft, Airbnb, Stripe, Pinterest and Amazon are among those spending millions of dollars on IT professionals with higher skills, according to a study by research firm Levels.fyi.
Unlike other professionals, software engineers with less than two years of experience can expect to take home large paychecks in the United States, thanks mainly to the shrinking pool of tech talent and the growing role of technology in all economic sectors.
At ride-hailing app Lyft, entry-level software writers are offered a monthly salary of between US$175,000 and US$234,000. Stripe, Airbnb, LinkedIn, and Oracle are among the other employers paying astronomical salary to freshly-graduated software engineers.
Airbnb, according to the research firm, offers up to US$334,000 for professionals with nearly five years of experience.
If you have more than five years of experience, you can earn up to US$505,000 at Pinterest. Stripe and Airbnb pay up to $443,000 and US$434,000, respectively, to employees with similar experience.
Social media giant Facebook and Google pay high salaries to their principal engineers who lead their IT teams.
Meanwhile, some analysts are arguing that the exorbitant salaries are fueling the soaring living cost in some US states, notably California, where most of the top tech companies are based.
