North American outsourcing firm Millennium1 Solutions (M1S) has bulked up in the Canadian province of Ontario with the launch of new call center in Sudbury.
At launch, the Sudbury contact center will offer 250 new jobs, with capacity for expansion to 350.
“Millennium’s expansion is being driven by the organic growth of its existing client base coupled with considerable growth from a multitude of new client wins over the last several years,” the BPO firm stated in a press release.
A majority of new hires will be call center agents; however, there will also be managers, leadership roles, support staff, IT positions, and human resources staff.
A portfolio company of The Gores Group, a global investment firm, Millennium is headquartered in Toronto, but has offices in Ottawa and Orangeville; Bridgewater, N.S.; St Antonio, Texas; and an offshore facility in Manila, Philippines. Most of its clients are banks, insurance firms, or government agencies.
Sudbury’s growing bilingual population is the main draw for voice-based call center firms; nearly 40% of residents in Sudbury speak French and English.
“We’ll be hiring both English and English/French bilingual call center agents,” The Sudbury Star reported quoting a Millennium official as saying.
“We are continuing to grow at an exceptionally rapid pace with many of Canada’s leading brands choosing to partner with M1S. This has resulted in extensive hiring within all of our Canadian facilities,” said Tom Band, CEO at Millennium1 Solutions.
This is good news for Sudbury, as local newspapers say the region lost hundreds of jobs last year; as many as 1200 jobs were lost in December alone, according to The Sudbury Star.
