Photo Essay: Lima’s Miraflores District Shines

With its carefully groomed parks, busy streets and dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Miraflores is one of Lima’s most popular neighborhoods among tourists, expats and locals alike.

Lima remains very much the center of Peru’s tech and BPO industry, with Globant recently joining the likes of Accenture, Aegis, Allus Global, Avantica, IBM and TCS by establishing a presence in the city.

With regard to after-hours life, nowhere else in Peru’s capital can offer as many hotels, shopping areas, art galleries, theaters, cinemas, nightclubs, flowery gardens and rugged beaches all packed into one upscale area. And with an array of bars, cafes and restaurants on almost every street, there are plenty of great places to sit back and enjoy a pisco sour or a freshly prepared cerviche.

Although part commercial district and part residential suburb, Miraflores has retained an air of tradition and even boasts its own archaeological site: the ruins of Huaca Pucllana, a great adobe pyramid that predates Peru’s ancient Inca civilization.

Home to many of Lima’s most prestigious private and international schools, it is an affluent, family-friendly zone with five-star hotels, fast-food joints and trendy pubs coexisting alongside flea markets, souvenir shops and outdoor art exhibits.

The seafront offers an endless series of immaculate parks with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the adjacent Larcomar mall, which promises to meet all of your shopping and entertainment needs. Although the rocky beaches are not as popular as the sandier strips found elsewhere in the city, they do draw an array of surfers and parasailors whenever the wind picks up.
