Close to 300 employees at the NCO Financial Services (Barbados SRL) will be on the breadline at the end of May.

Reports indicate that the staff in the transporter Capital One fraud department, at NCO’s office at the Harbour Industrial Park, were informed last month that the department was being relocated to Manila in the Philippines.

Efforts by the Weekend Nation to reach management proved futile.

However, staff, who did not wish to give their names, said they were informed at a meeting last month by management that the department was being closed. They said an official from NCO’s head office in the United States had also met with them.

NCO, which operates a global network of over 100 centres in 11 countries, provides clients with business process outsourcing solutions, including accounts receivables and customer management services.

Barbados and Antigua are the only two Caribbean countries with centres.

NCO opened its doors in Barbados in 2005 and was said to be one of the island’s leading employers with close to 1 500 Barbadians, mainly women, on the payroll.
