Swiss watchmaker Swatch is launching a new contactless payment watch in Brazil, the first country in the Americas to receive it. The product is called Bellamy, which is a play on words of “bel ami”, meaning “good friend” in French.
Each watch comes equipped with an integrated NFC antenna (Near Field Communications) and a contactless payment chip supplied through the watchmaker’s partnership with Visa. After buying one of the four models, customers must register it at the bank and deposit funds into the watch to begin shopping.
The first Bellamys will be nationally available in Brazil this month and will cost 725 reals.
