A consortium led by Unisys Corp has landed a $3.6 million contract with the government of Brazil’s northeastern state of Pernambuco, which will see the US company provide IT services to streamline the local tax collection system. The Blue Bell, Pennsylvania-based company says it will extend its IT solutions to help the state’s Tax Department (SEFAZ) to upgrade its application systems.
For more than a decade, Unisys has been providing IT services for the Brazilian state, which uses e-Fisco, an integrated online system that collects tax on sales of goods and services. Unisys says it will develop new tax, financial, accounting and budget features for the 34 subsystems that comprise e-Fisco.
In addition, Unisys will provide support services for the department’s IT infrastructure, such as technical support for servers and other equipment, database administration and transitional project management.
“In recent years, SEFAZ has been required to develop new applications to accommodate integration of some key federal and state government functions, such as a simplified tax system for small companies and an electronic tax billing system,” said Ana Paula Serrano, IT Superintendent at SEFAZ.
