Uruguay Takes “Gender-Balanced” Approach at South American Games

Uruguay has sent a gender-balanced delegation of 240 sportsmen and sportswomen to the 11th South American Games in Bolivia, guaranteeing at least one man and one woman in each sporting discipline.

Speaking at an event on Tuesday, Uruguay’s Sports Secretary, Fernando Caceres, said that his hopes are focused on the national soccer team, led by coach Fabian Coito. He also described long-jumper Emiliano Lasa as the “Uruguayan athlete with the best chances in the history of the Olympic Games”.

The South American Games is slated to take place from May 26 to June 8, 2018, and will feature 14 countries competing in 377 events across 35 sports.
