More than 90% of programmers in the United States are already using artificial intelligence (AI), with 70% of them having a strong belief that automation technology could make them more productive.
AI coding tools can not only aid boost overall productivity, but they can also enable upskilling chances to help develop a smarter workforce, according to a recent GitHub study.

AI tools can automate the tedious task of writing boilerplate code, freeing up developers to focus on more creative and strategic work. This can lead to new features and products, which is beneficial for employers.
According to the report, many organizations are already using AI tools to automate parts of their work, deploying more employees on projects like security reviews, planning and pair programming.
In a nutshell, AI tools are changing the way that software is developed and evaluated. Managers may soon start evaluating engineers based on new metrics, such as collaboration, communication, code quality and issue resolution.
Most developers (80%) believe that AI coding tools will make their teams more collaborative. Inbal Shani, CPO at GitHub, says that this is because developers are now expected to do more than just write code. They need to be able to navigate a variety of tools and technologies.
The survey’s findings suggest that the landscape of software development is changing. GitHub interviewed 500 US-based companies with a headcount of over 1,000 to reach this conclusion.
