US Tech Market Buzzes with Activity, as Job Postings Soar

American businesses are increasingly hiring tech talent, with job postings for technology positions surpassing 400,000 for the second consecutive month in April.

US employers have posted a record 1.6 million job openings for tech professionals so far this year, an increase of 40% compared to the same period last year, according to CompTIA’s report.

However, they have not been able to hire as many tech professionals as they need. Technology companies added barely 20,700 workers in April and 75,200 through the first four months of 2022.

“Despite growing chatter around economic headwinds, it was a solid month of tech employment gains and hiring activity,” the report stated.

Positions for software developers and engineers accounted for nearly 30% of all employer tech job postings in April, the report added.

Demand was also strong for IT project managers, IT support specialists, systems engineers and architects and network engineers and architects. Among the job postings, three in 10 were for positions in emerging technologies.

Most of the tech positions were created in major metros such as New York City, Washington, Dallas, Los Angeles and Chicago. Interestingly, Oklahoma City created a lot of jobs for tech professionals in recent months.
