Jamaica’s on the road to becoming a regional business process outsourcing (BPO) hub. But there’s still work to be done before the Caribbean island can claim that achievement.
The case was put forth by Jaime Granados, Chief of the Trade and Investment Division at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) during the latest edition of Invest Jamaica.
The IDB official argued in favor of the development of a stronger knowledge-based services industry on the island, naming higher productivity, more resilience, stronger growth and lower capital investment requirements as attractive reasons.
“We [at the IDB] see a very clear opportunity to further diversify from trading good to trading services, specifically knowledge-based services,” stated Granados during the welcoming remarks of the investment conference.
