Yucatán Has a New Lab for Software Devs

The Mexican state of Yucatán opened a new technology lab to train young graduates in software development.

The lab, located in the city of Mérida, is the first of its kind in Mexico’s southeast.

The facility will be a hangout for people in the software industry as well as for technology students, creating an ideal setting for professionals to study, interact and create, according to local university Tecnológico de Software, which collaborated with Fundación Dedica to launch the lab.

Lab funding comes from a variety of sources, including Mexico’s federal government, Yucatán’s state government and private companies.

The lab is open-source and will offer funding for the launch of software firms. In addition to skill training, it runs workshops and mentorship programs.

Manuel Haro Márquez, president of Fundación Dedica, said that the lab would generate over 1,000 skilled software professionals in the country, in addition to creating a more vibrant software development ecosystem in Yucatán.
