2019 ILLUMINATE AWARD WINNERS
Colombia was a big winner at this year’s Illuminate Awards at Nexus 2019, which acknowledge the work done in the nearshore space by executives, companies and countries in expanding the sector’s reach and consolidating markets as outsourcing destinations.
IBEX
IBEX was awarded with the accolade of Nearshore Company of the Year, and which has recently expanded its footprint into the nearshore markets of Jamaica and Nicaragua, as well as seeing growth in the US and Philippines. The award was received on behalf of the company by Julie Casteel, a Nexus participating speaker, who has led the company through a strategic rebranding in recent years and has been key to the company’s double digit growth, year over year.
MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA
Reflecting the increasing popularity of Colombia as a nearshore destination, and particularly its secondary cities, Medellín was named Nearshore City of the Year, and which is seeing an influx of investment, buoyed by government incentives, a large talent pool, its proximity to US time zones and its tranquility and political and economic stability.
SIMÓN BORRERO, FELIPE VILLAMARÍN AND SEBASTIAN MEJÍA, RAPPI
The founders of Colombian startup Rappi, which earlier this month received a $1 billion investment from Softbank, Simón Borrero, Felipe Villamarin and Sebastian Mejia, were named Nearshore Entrepreneurs of the Year.
Agustina Fainguersch, CEO at Wolox
Agustina Fainguersch, CEO of New York-based software design and development company Wolox, was named Nearshore Executive of the Year. The company also has operations in Buenos Aires, Medellín and Santiago, Chile.
Tata Consultancy Services
The Nearshore Trendsetter of the Year award went to Tata Consultancy Services Latin America, and was received on behalf of the company by Rajeev Gupta, regional vice president for Tata’s Latin America ‘s Nearshore Operations, and who leads a team of more than 6000+ professionals spread across Latin America, US and India and has taken the Nearshore operations from scratch to among the largest across any other IT company in Latin America.
Antonio Carambula, Executive Director of Uruguay XXI
The Nearshore Investment Professional of the Year award went to Antonio Carambula, the executive director of Uruguay XXI, the South American country’s governmental investment promotion agency.
