Jamaica’s BPO Startup Lands First Enterprise Client

A Jamaican call center startup, VLBPO, has entered a new phase of growth after securing its first enterprise-level client, signaling a strategic shift from serving small and medium-sized businesses to targeting large corporate accounts.

Founded in 2019 with just four agents and a single client, the Jamaican-owned business process outsourcing (BPO) firm has since scaled up to a workforce of 140 employees.

The company has also expanded beyond Jamaica, employing remote agents in the Dominican Republic and the Philippines. This distributed model enables it to provide 24-hour multilingual support in English, Spanish and Mandarin.

Chief Executive Officer Earl McDonald said in a press release that the company is now preparing for rapid expansion. VLBPO plans to recruit between 100 and 150 additional agents this year as it ramps up operations.

Hiring is already underway to support a US-based client in the healthcare and insurance sector, while the firm is also gradually strengthening its footprint in financial services.

VLBPO’s growth has been supported by the Development Bank of Jamaica, which provided a technical assistance grant to upgrade its technology infrastructure. In 2025, the company also participated in the United Kingdom Trade Partnership program, facilitated by the International Trade Centre and Jamaica Promotions Corporation, helping it gain international exposure.
