Mexico placed in the top 10 most visited countries in the world last year, raking 8th in the UN World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) World Tourism Barometer.
The North American services powerhouse received more than 35 million international visitors in 2016, achieving a growth rate of 9% — twice the global tourism industry average.
The country’s mix of biodiversity, gastronomy, luxury, high-profile events, and cultural traditions have been key contributors to this growth as it aims to to achieve 50 million international visitors by 2021.
Partnerships with airlines, hotels, and tour operators will be relied on heavily to meet this ambitious goal, but with the number of seats on international direct flights to Mexico already increasing by more than two million, the country looks set to achieve it.
