Eric Farnsworth, of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told Nearshore Americas’ Kirk Laughlin that Washington is paying unprecedented attention to Latin America and the Caribbean — but the region remains cautious. Farnsworth noted that in just eight months, top U.S. officials from State, Treasury, Defense and Homeland Security have all visited the region, marking a level of engagement unseen in decades.
He called the U.S.-Mexico relationship “fundamental and inescapable,” praising steady dialogue even amid tensions. While some see U.S. diplomacy as heavy-handed, he said it’s delivering results on extradition and border coordination.
