U.S.-based satellite internet provider Omnispace has entered the Argentine market, setting the stage for direct competition with Elon Musk’s Starlink.
The company recently secured a license from Argentina’s telecom regulator to deliver high-speed 5G connectivity nationwide. Under the authorization, Omnispace Argentina can provide both fixed and mobile ICT services — wired or wireless — via its non-geostationary satellite constellation.
A key feature of Omnispace’s service is the ability to connect directly to mobile devices without antennas or additional hardware, making it especially valuable in remote regions with limited infrastructure. Unlike Starlink’s focus on broadband internet, Omnispace specializes in direct satellite links for IoT devices, integrating satellite coverage with global mobile networks.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the company is developing a hybrid satellite-terrestrial network to ensure uninterrupted coverage.
While the license marks a significant step, Argentina’s regulator emphasized that spectrum availability is not guaranteed, and Omnispace must obtain further approvals before launching commercial operations.
