Narayan AmmachchiMore than 57% of Colombian workers dislike working remotely, according to a survey commissioned by the country’s National Department of Statistics.
Interestingly, men dislike teleworking more than women. In the survey, 65% of men said they would like to go to the office instead of working from home.
With 14.6% of its workers operating remotely, Bogota has the highest number of teleworkers in the country, and the capital city is followed by Villavicencio (10.7%), Tunja (10.6%), and Armenia (10.4%).
The cities with the fewest number of teleworkers are Cúcuta (1.8%) and Quibdó (0.7%).
The increasing reluctance to work remotely seems to have caused some employers to call their employees back to the office. In the survey, less than 10% of respondents said they worked remotely in the past week.
Hybrid offices are less likely to become popular in Colombia because less than 13% of respondents in the survey said they would like to work from home occasionally.
Some Colombians have been working remotely since 2008, but the country only regulated the new working model in 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began to wreak havoc.
Today, between 4 and 5 million Colombians are working remotely, according to the Ministry of Labor.
