Global BPO provider Alorica has begun establishing an expansive call center in Owensboro, Kentucky, creating as many as 840 jobs.
Local officials say this is one of the biggest workforce announcements in the city’s history. The new center should be ready by spring 2017 at the earliest.
The company will recruit customer engagement agents, supervisory roles, trainers, and IT and HR managers in phases. The first 500 will be hired within the next 12 months and the rest within three years.
“The people of Owensboro, Kentucky will play a critical role as we expand our talented team of experts and transform our industry with endless passion, performance, and possibilities,” Alorica stated in a press release.
Local media have reported that the new hiring will make Alorica the third-largest private employer in Daviess County, behind Owensboro Health and the U.S. Bank Home Mortgage.
Two months ago, Alorica gobbled up its U.S. rival Expert Global Solutions (EGS) with over 40,000 employees in 11 countries, including Guatemala in Central America.
It seems Kentucky’s skill training program, known as KY FAME, drew it to Owensboro. KY FAME pairs private-sector companies with Kentucky higher-education institutions to provide education, training, certification and hands-on experience to students and adults seeking a career change.
“In collaboration with the Commonwealth, Alorica will pioneer a workforce education partnership to train candidates for business and technical-service careers,” stated Governor Matt Bevin.
Alorica provides customer engagement services through voice, online, mobile telephone and social media to companies in nine key industries.
