Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Argentina, and El Salvador have been identified as the safest countries in Latin America for expatriates, digital nomads and retirees.
The study, conducted by Argentina Expat, evaluated 23 nations based on seven key safety indicators relevant to foreign residents, including crime rates, road safety, corruption levels and the rule of law.
Chile secured the top position, attributed to its low murder rates, political stability, and robust institutions. Uruguay followed in second place, recognized for its effective governance and secure urban environments.
Argentina ranked third. Despite its economic challenges, its major cities are noted for their security, adequate policing, and reliable infrastructure. Costa Rica placed fourth, appealing to retirees due to its enduring peace, environmentally conscious policies, and strong democratic framework.
A notable entry at fifth place was El Salvador, which has experienced a significant reduction in violence. The country’s homicide rate has dramatically decreased to just 1.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, with kidnappings now almost nonexistent.
The data used in the report was sourced from reputable global organizations such as the World Health Organization, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the World Justice Project.
