Spanish BPO firm GSS Grupo Covisian is poised for a major expansion in Colombia, three years after acquiring Avanza, a Madrid-based call center company, for US$167 million.
GSS will soon open a delivery center in the tourist town of Cúcuta, adding more than 800 employees nationwide.
The BPO provider, a subsidiary of Italy-based Grupo Covisian, hopes to generate more than 70% of its sales in Latin America.
The acquisition of Avanza gave GSS 800 call center agents. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the workforce in Colombia doubled barely a year later. The new recruitment program is likely to make the BPO provider one of the largest employers in the Colombian contact center industry.
Its Colombian operations are not limited to serving domestic clients. Agents in its Bogota and Medellin offices also provide customer support to clients in the United States and Spain.
GSS opened its first Latin American office in the Peruvian capital of Lima, but today the company operates no fewer than 20 offices across the region, serving more than 150 clients worldwide.
GSS CEO Cesar López Pérez told Colombian media that the company is moving forward with the goal of building a strong presence in the Spanish-speaking market and achieving annual sales of US$354 million.
With more than 600,000 jobs, the BPO industry accounts for 2.8% of the Colombian economy, according to Colombian BPO lobby groups.
