Guatemala's Telecom Market Growing at a Brisk Pace

The world recession might have painted a grim scenario for the telecom sector all over the world, but a new report from Pyramid Research provides an optimistic picture in Guatemala. The report states that in the next five years, the telecommunications market in Guatemala is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.3 percent.
According to the report, mobile data, broadband, and pay-TV will be the major contributors to this growth and the telecom market is expected to reach $2.8 billion in 2014 in Guatemala. The report offers an analysis of important trends in the Guatemalan communications market and focuses on near-term opportunities and assessing upcoming risks factors.
The report claims that there will be increase of 13.7 percent in mobile data market the next five years. “We see interesting opportunities in mobile data services where messaging, mobile Internet, and mobile broadband could close the gap in communications that fixed services could not,” states Jose Magana, analyst at Pyramid Research and author of the report.
Like in most of the countries, messaging will still remain the biggest revenue generator for the companies in Guatemala. But revenue can also be expected from mobile data services such as mobile Internet, and mobile broadband as the availability of such services increases in the country. According to the report, the penetration of broadband still remains at 4% and there is plenty of opportunities for the companies to exploit this market.
