US medical technology firm Hologic Inc. launched a cybersecurity operations center (SOC) in Costa Rica, the first of its kind in the country’s life sciences sector.
The SOC aims to safeguard Hologic’s life science business Costa Rica.
A couple years ago, the country declared a state of emergency last year following a cyberattack that crippled the computer systems of several government agencies.
Located in the Coyol Free Trade Zone, in the city of Alajuela, Hologic’s SOC is designed to ensure rapid response and robust data protection in the event of a cyber incident.
Hologic’s presence in Costa Rica began with medical device manufacturing and has since expanded to include gynecological health services.
The company continued growing by incorporating a finance shared services center and, recently, by offering IT services globally. Hologic currently employs approximately 1,100 people across the nation.
The Hologic global IT shared services center comprises 34 team members, including those stationed in the SOC. The company plans to hire an additional 40 professionals with expertise in cybersecurity, infrastructure, support, process automation and commercial IT.
