Spanish BPO provider Emergia has acquired its Colombian arrival Conalcreditos in an apparent move to capitalize on the growing demand for back- office services in the Colombian financial services industry.
With offices in Cali, Pereira, and Bogota, Conalcreditos provides debt collection services for banks and other financial services firms, in addition to customer services. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
The Spanish customer services provider is not new to Colombia. It began operations in the Andean country some time in 2013 with the launch of a call center in Manizales, the mountainous coffee-growing region in western Colombia, for providing customer services to the Hispanic community in the United States.
According to Spanish news reports, today the company has a significant presence in Medellin and Barranquilla as well.
The company says it would deploy modern technologies in centers hitherto run by Conalcreditos for debt collections and continue look for more acquisitions.
Founded in 2005 by professionals with experience in running contact centers, Emergia reportedly earns about US$154 million in annual revenue.
The company has employed around 10,000 people across 15 centers spread around Spain and Colombia. Most of its clients are in sectors such as telecommunications, banking, and insurance.
Besides Spanish, it provides customer services in many European languages including Catalan, English, French, German, and Italian, through various channels, such as web, chat, email, telephone, SMS, and virtual agents.
The Barcelona-based BPO provider also has a delivery center in the US city of Atlanta.
