Indian IT services giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is reportedly the top employer of US talent in its sector, according to a recent study by Cambridge Group, a Chicago-based consultancy firm.
During the five-year period that ended December 2016, the company hired 12,500 Americans and its US employee growth rate averaged 57%, the highest in the US technology services industry.
This “reflects the company’s significant and ongoing level of investment into the US economy,” TCS stated, citing the report.
The news came just two days ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States, where he held a lengthy discussion with President Donald Trump on a bilateral trade relationship.
India’s largest software services firm said that it would hire either a similar number of Americans or more this year. Considering its statement, TCS increases its headcount in the US by 600 or 800 people during every financial quarter.
Most of its new hires in America are agile software development engineers, digital user experience (UX) designers, cloud architects, or autonomous drone operators.
In the past three years alone, it has invested nearly $3 billion in the US, mostly into employment and new innovation labs.
Besides employment, TCS says it has invested billions of dollars in creating a larger tech talent pool, and that it had funded numerous STEM and career skill programs in North America.
“Our industry leading US recruitment, advanced digital training of employees, and academic and STEM partnership programs act as a key contributor to the US innovation economy,” said Surya Kant, President, North America, UK and Europe, TCS.
