Teleperformance Expands to Barranquilla, Looking for Bilinguals

Teleperformance has unveiled a new delivery center in Barranquilla, as the French BPO giant gears up to increase its headcount in Colombia to more than 30,000 over the next three years.

This is the 7th site for Teleperformance in the Andean country, with the other sites located in Bogota, Medellin, and Tunja.

To begin with, the delivery center will hire 1,200 people, but its headcount will increase to 5,000 over the next three years, the company officials have told the local media.

The company is primarily looking for bilinguals, with reports saying that the Barranquilla center will provide customer services to US-based technology startups.

“Teleperformance Colombian unit achieved 50% growth in revenue last year,” reports Spanish news portal Larepublica, citing the company’s regional CEO Andres Bernal.  The BPO provider is expecting between 25% and 30% growth this year.

Last year, Teleperformance invested around US$37 million in Colombia, and its workforce grew more than 25,000 people.  Reports say that the company has hired a large number of work-at-home agents in Cali.

Barranquilla is one of the favorite hotspots for global BPO providers. Today, around 14 companies are exporting services from the city. Teleperformance is not at all new to Barranquilla, because hundreds of home-based agents are already working for it for many years.
