Tech companies in the United States added 14,400 net new workers in November, confirming the continued expansion of tech jobs in the American economy since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The numbers show that there are far more employers hiring tech talent than firing them, said tech industry nonprofit CompTIA, which compiled the report after analyzing data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics released earlier this month.
“It’s certainly premature to dismiss concerns over the health of the economy, but this should be a reassuring sign for the tech workforce,” CompTIA stated.
In the first 11 months of 2022, there was an increase of 207,200 jobs in the US technology sector.
New hires in November were diverse across all job categories, led by IT services and custom software development (+8,100). Employment growth was also seen in data processing, hosting and related services (+4,100), other information services including search engines (+2,100) and manufacturing of computer and electronic products (+1,900).
According to the report, tech jobs across all industries grew by 137,000, pushing the unemployment rate for tech workers down to 2%.
Employer vacancies for future hiring of technicians fell in November but still totaled nearly 270,000. Software developer and engineer vacancies accounted for about 28% of all technical job postings, with demand for IT support specialists, systems engineers, IT project managers, and network engineers remaining to be solid.
