Global BPO Alorica is shuttering its Kennesaw call center in Georgia this month, putting 635 people out of a job, according to state records, making it the largest layoff in the state this year.
The company is reportedly “working to retain” roughly 300 employees at a new Marietta location, according to an article by local news daily AJC, although details on this new location are scarce.
The displaced employees “provided customer care for a telecom/media/entertainment company,” said Alorica spokeswoman Erica McCarthy, cited by AJC. It is unclear whether the laid off workers will receive severance packages.
McCarthy stressed that Kennesaw location “will remain open and fully staffed” until September 17.
