US online retailer Amazon has launched Amazon Prime in Mexico, representing the first Latin American launch for the premium delivery service.
Over 20 million items are now eligible for unlimited free shipping in the country. The service costs MX$449 (US$23) for the first year, before rising to MX$899 in the following year.
Customers in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puebla, and Querétaro can now request free 1-day shipping on qualifying products. Same-day delivery is also available in Mexico City.
Amazon launched full operations in the country through Amazon.com.mx less than two years ago, but with this move the company expects to claim a good slice of Mexico’s $6 billion in projected web sales by 2018.
