Technology companies in Argentina are rolling out new strategies to retain talent, as over 40% of them lost key professionals last year, according to a study by consultancy Hucap.
Most of these departures were to foreign firms luring Argentine workers with dollar-based salaries and remote work opportunities, which are highly attractive in a country grappling with a volatile peso and a growing demand for work-life balance.
Around 62% of local companies are struggling to hire skilled professionals in high-demand areas such as data science, cybersecurity, app development, cloud architecture, and digital marketing.
To cope with the talent crunch, some companies are hiring recent college graduates and training them on the job, while others are reshaping their organizational cultures to create more flexible, appealing work environments.
The study notes that competition from overseas employers is prompting local firms to offer perks like flexible schedules, paid training, and tailored benefits packages to hold onto their top talent.
AI adoption is also transforming recruitment. More than half of Argentine businesses are now using AI-powered tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to streamline hiring processes and engage candidates more efficiently.
According to Hucap, the most sought-after areas in the IT sector are Technology and Systems, Programming, Technical Support, and Functional Analysis, which together account for over 60% of job openings.
Meanwhile, the testing profile attracts the highest number of applications per vacancy, while data analysis sees the lowest applicant-to-job ratio, highlighting both oversupply and scarcity within the sector.
