Executives from Qualcomm, Facebook, Linkedin, IBM and Microsoft – among others – were some of the most vocal proponents of doing business in Brazil, during the inaugural launch last week of the ‘Brasil Summit’, a business technology forum orchestrated by investment agency, Apex-Brasil. The conference, held in downtown San Francisco, was aimed at propelling Brazil deeper into the consciousness of Silicon Valley as it strives to brand itself as a nation of world-class innovation and entrepreneurship. Tied to this effort was the formal establishment of an Apex-Brasil office (headed by former Brasscom marketing chief Sergio Pessoa), and also the launch of a San Francisco base for a recently created accelerator, “Startup Brasil.” The event was well attended, and seemed to demonstrate that Brazil – despite recent challenges – continues to engage some of the most powerful and influential technology brands on the planet.
