All the headlines today focus on how Washington is loosening restrictions on Cuba, but there has been a much larger shift in recent years in how the United States interacts with Latin America. In a Nearshore Café podcast earlier this year, our Kirk Laughlin and TBR’s Patrick Heffernan discussed the sea change of re-engagement that is happening. Heffernan noted the many “ongoing, ever-evolving programs” from the government and private sector that push economic growth and foster a better exchange of products, services, and ideas. “A lot of times we get focused on what’s in the news and lose focus on those foundational, fundamental programs that really, truly become what the relationships are built on,” said Heffernan.
