Telecommunications company IFX Networks said it plans to invest $100 million in Guatemala over the next three years to grow its infrastructure.
IFX also launched a $25 million Orión data center in Mixco, on the outskirts of Guatemala City. The Tier III-certified facility spreads across nearly 5,000 square meters and it will operate around the clock, year-round. It will support cloud computing, digital services, and secure backup operations for businesses and government institutions.
The data center is equipped with backup power systems capable of supplying more than 1 megawatt of power, along with advanced physical and cyber protections. Orión has already been linked to IFX’s regional network of about 27 data centers, and more than 140,000 kilometers of fiber-optic infrastructure across 18 countries in Latin America.
Company executives, including Chief Revenue Officer Augusto Dumit and IFX Guatemala Country Manager Alexander Gutiérrez, said the project is intended to help turn Guatemala into a digital and technology hub for Central America.
Guatemalan Spanish-language business outlets like Soy502 and Publinews Guatemala have described Orión as an important step toward attracting foreign investment and improving the country’s competitiveness as demand for reliable data center services rises in the region.
