Jamaica is growing a nearshore destination, and the government wants to double the nation’s BPO sector by 2020. But one recent report from the Jamaica Gleaner, “Rogue Operators Hurting Sector,” highlights troubling signs that the industry still has wrinkles to iron out in order to grow. “Some business process outsourcing call center operators are expressing fear that the legitimacy of the industry in Jamaica is being threatened by players who are refusing to become a part of the formal system.” The article says some within the industry are calling on unregulated operators to register with the Business Processing Industry Association of Jamaica (BPIAJ).
