Lionbridge Technologies has wrapped up a deal to acquire Costa Rica-based digital marketing firm Darwin Zone for about US$2.4 million.
About 70 employees of the Costa Rican firm, which specializes in digital marketing campaign management, social media, search engine marketing and analytics, will be added to Lionbridge’s global workforce, according to the company’s press release.
Founded by former Google and Procter & Gamble executive Sergio Restrepo, Darwin Zone’s offerings range from ad campaign management to app development.
Based in Waltham, Ma., Lionbridge, whose clients include Microsoft, Novartis, Nikon, Pfizer, Philips and Siemens, believes that the acquisition will help it tap into the growing digitalization of Latin America.
“This addition also bolsters our presence in Latin America and allows us to efficiently scale our business to meet our clients’ evolving digital content needs,” Rory Cowan, CEO of Lionbridge.
Darwin offers to help marketers and advertisers create, manage and grow high-impact digital marketing campaigns. It has operations in many Latin American countries but it is not clear how many clients it has in Costa Rica.
Lionbridge, which uses advanced cloud technology, has over has 5,000 employees in 38 offices in 26 countries. It also provides translation, online marketing, content management and application testing solutions.
The U.S. firm reported US$120.2 million in revenue for the first quarter of this year. According to the Business Journal, Lionbridge said that it will generate revenue of between $129 million and $133 million for the second quarter this year.
