Mexico City Strengthens Its Lead as LatAm Talent Hub

Mexico City now hosts more than 320,000 technology professionals — nearly double the number from five years ago — marking a 95% growth rate, according to CBRE’s Scoring Tech Talent report.

The study, which analyzed eleven major technology centers across Latin America, ranked Mexico City first for both the size of its tech workforce and the number of new graduates entering the field. In 2024 alone, the city produced 24,346 tech graduates, far ahead of São Paulo’s 15,079, securing its lead as the region’s top talent hub.

Monterrey posted the fastest workforce expansion at 112%, but Mexico City remains the largest overall center for tech talent. Importantly, the growing number of professionals has not slowed demand for skilled workers.

Salary growth further highlights the city’s appeal. Since 2019, the average annual pay for software developers in Mexico City has risen 43%, reaching $48,058 in 2024. This growth rate exceeds both the Latin American average of 36% and the 26% rise seen in the United States over the same period.

Experts attribute this momentum to a combination of factors: relatively low labor and housing costs compared to other North American markets and a steady pipeline of graduates from leading universities.

“Mexico City continues to grow as a technology hub, graduating a large number of talent and attracting software, engineering, and manufacturing firms looking to establish operations in the region,” said Yazmín Ramírez, Senior Director of Labor Analytics & Location Incentives at CBRE LATAM.
