New York, NY (PRWEB) September 30, 2009 — The first independent online media site focused on outsourcing in the Americas launches today. “The Nearshore outsourcing industry is expanding rapidly and as a result corporations need real tools and real knowledge to assess the quality of providers as well as gain insights on issues like human capital, geopolitics and project management”, said Founder and Editorial Director Kirk Laughlin, who is an award-winning business editor and also former vice president at Ziff Davis Enterprise, a business media company based in New York City.

Latin America is a popular destination for outsourced services, driven by geographic proximity, time zone alignment, Spanish language proficiency and cultural similarities with business partners in the US. Nearshore Americas will devote significant attention to both established outsourcing destinations such as Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Chile and Costa Rica and also fast-emerging nations such as Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jamaica and others.

Nearshore Americas, carrying the tagline “Smart Sourcing for the Competitive Enterprise,” will officially launch at this week’s North America Shared Services Outsourcing Summit in Chicago, where representatives from notable Fortune 1000 companies, such as Wal-Mart, Caterpillar and Kraft Foods, are among the speakers.

Nearshore Americas has assembled a team of US and Latin American based journalists and columnists who will contribute regular posts and reports. Coverage will be broadly based and include analysis of process support in areas such as accounting and finance, human resources, software development and IT services, call centers and customer support, knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and product development. Site visitors are invited to subscribe to a free weekly newsletter. Current editorial features include an in-depth analysis of the services transformation in Colombia, several guest commentaries including one on the impact Mexico’s crime is having on the outsourcing industry there and a “Nearshore Newsdesk” video interview with one of the world’s foremost experts on human capital, Lori Blackman, president of DNL Global.

The global business process outsourcing (BPO) industry generates an estimated $150 billion in revenue annually. “For many corporations, offshoring has become a major strategic concern of top management,” notes Arie Y. Lewin, an internationally respected outsourcing authority and executive director of the Offshoring Research Network at the Fuqua Business School at Duke University. A recent ORN study found that the number of U.S. companies with an offshoring strategy has more than doubled from 2005 to 2008 and 60 percent of companies currently offshoring say they have aggressive plans to expand existing activities.
