The 2016 Olympic Games has already crowned its undisputed star this year, with Simone Biles leading global headlines as one of the best, if not the best, gold medal Olympic gymnasts of all time.
While Biles is representing the U.S. in the Rio Games, not much is heard about her Belize heritage, where Biles holds dual citizenship.
Biles and her younger sister Adria were adopted in 2003 by their maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles, who is from a prominent Belizean family of teachers, nurses, and government officials, reports the New York Times.
Today, both nations are proud of this exemplary teen athlete as she further proves the raw talent that nearshore countries are capable of producing.
